Uncovering and Healing Your Limiting Beliefs

imagesIt’s human nature to try and provide ourselves with the best life possible. However, for some reason, it also seems like it can be a part of human nature to hold ourselves back?

So the question is, why does this happen?

There are many different reasons for people holding themselves back. For example, low confidence, poor self-esteem and self-worth as well as life choices are a few reasons. However, the most common tends to be limiting beliefs.

Have you ever heard of limiting beliefs before?

If not, here is a brief explanation so that may be on the same page. Limiting beliefs are exactly what they sound like. They are beliefs that we hold in ourselves that hold us back in life.

These beliefs come in many different forms and are created because of many different reasons. Some people form these negative beliefs as children and some pick them up later in life. However, they all have one thing in common, they are toxic when it comes to the success of our lives.

Sometimes, the hardest part of completing a task is believing!

Believe it or not, the hardest part of completing some things in life is simply allowing yourself to believe it can be done. This may sound like a cheesy line out of a Hollywood production, but I assure you it is true!

Think about it, I’m sure that there have been at least a handful of times in your life that you thought you wouldn’t be able to do something. However, when you tried it, it wasn’t that hard and you were even quite good at it.

Here is an example that most people can relate to. Do you remember the day when you learned how to ride a bike or possibly even swim? It was likely an unnerving experience, right? You may have even possibly doubted that you would ever be able to do it. However, you didn’t give up and before you knew it, you were riding a bike without help or swimming through a pool just like a fish in a pond.

Once we can let go of limiting beliefs, there really is no limit to the life we can provide ourselves with!

Have you ever wondered what opportunities you could provide yourself with if you quit shutting doors on yourself? The thing is, even if your life is great now, it could be better if you could learn to let go of limiting beliefs.

Sadly though, this is often much easier said than done. This is especially true when a person develops limiting beliefs as a child and holds on to them for much of their life.

People can actually become so set in their ways full of doubt and self-set limits that the thought of success becomes scary to them. This is often times when people begin to self-sabotage. They become so used to not succeeding that success itself becomes something to fear.

If you are in a predicament such as this, or if you are experiencing limiting beliefs for any other reason, it is advised that you reverse these thoughts immediately. The sooner you get rid of these thoughts, the sooner your life will take a turn in the right direction.

So, how can you reverse limiting beliefs?

There are literally hundreds of ways to deal with limiting beliefs. However, one method that I find to be especially easy and effective is affirmations. As mentioned earlier, limiting beliefs stem form a mentality that says that you either cannot accomplish or are not worthy of success.

The best way to reverse this thought process is to begin filling your mind with positive thoughts. That is where the use of affirmations come in. These very simple, yet extremely powerful statements are known to work wonders when it comes to shaping mindsets for many different reasons.

They function off of the principal that, after hearing something enough times, we will begin to believe it. Basically, the same way some of your limiting beliefs may have been created from hearing negative things about you over and over, positive mindsets can be created by repeating positive things about yourself over and over.

You may want to try an affirmation along the lines of, “I am a good person and I deserve good things in life” or “I have skills in this universe and I know that my skills will help me to succeed”.

Make sure to use emotion while doing affirmations. Dully spitting out a statement without really meaning it will surely not provide you with the results that you desire.

Many people feel uncomfortable when first starting to use affirmations. This tends to be especially true amongst those with limiting beliefs. However, the more you practice your affirmations, the healthier your mentality will become and the less limits you will place on yourself.

You are not doomed to a limited life!

There are amazing opportunities waiting for you in life. However, you will never be able to take advantage of those opportunities if you do not learn to let go of your limiting beliefs.
